Susan Simmonds was the sixth of eight children, born on January 11, 1922, to the union of Horatio and Sarah Simmonds in the town of Sanguinetti ,Clarendon, Jamaica, W.I. There she lived the greater part of her life. Her trade was that of a dressmaker, but her legacy is her 7 children and the others whom she parented and raised with tireless devotion.
Her principal devotion, however, was to Christ, after being baptized at the Church of God in Sanguinetti. Her faithfulness to God and family was richly rewarded with the gift of living to see her children prosper and multiply. She was the matriarch of 7 children, 24 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, all but one of whom survived her and upon whose lives she left an indelible impression. She is also survived by two loving sisters, Louise Tomlinson, who resides in Sanguinetti, Clarendon and Daisy Simmonds, who resides in Homestead, Florida.
She migrated to the United States in 1987 and lived in Coconut Creek, Florida, where she resided at the time of her passing.
Her strength of character, uncompromising integrity and joyous spirit live on in each of her children and her children's children. She will be sorely missed.
